Scribble
Object, 2016
Team: Jimenez Lai, Steve Martinez
Scribble is a neon lamp, a continuous curve that touches down only at four tangent points to support its own weight. Neon, typically reserved for signage, is transformed to become an unreadable language. This table light is also a cartoonish script, written in the glow of the mall font.
Scribble was first published in Log 40, and later in the permanent collection of LACMA. There are now only five surviving lamps in the world, and they are in the possession of Michael Osman/Anna Niemark, Kristy Balliet, Jimenez Lai, Danielle Rago, and LACMA.
