The Cave House is a proposal for a house without defined programs.
Did the caveman set out looking for a two bedroom cave? This is the question from which we began our design process. Episodically, we created a series of rooms with atmospheres and suggestive functions, using texture, geometry, curvature, color, and other qualities. We did not pre-determine where people might sleep, eat, or work.
The late comedian Mitch Hedberg once remarked: “...but I think it’s up to me to decide how many bedrooms there are. This bedroom has an oven in it. This bedroom has a lot of people sitting around watching TV.”
