This is a short story in the format of a graphic novel. It was originally developed at Taliesin, and later completed for an exhibition at The University of Toronto as a part of the Howarth-Wright Fellowship.

This is a story about The Broadacre City as a spaceship, traveling at the speed of light to another habitable planet for 10,000 years. Unlike the original Broadacre City, the citizens of this spaceship can never expand and must maintain a stable population. Generations of passengers were born on this spaceship, trying to maintain human culture and rituals, with the earth calendar. The spaceship is controlled by a television screen, by a man who smiles. Without gravity, all surfaces became “plan” in this world - as people are able to freely travel and use all surfaces of the interior. A network of dwelling units were developed for people to sleep, eat, work, and socialize. Using a closed loop that harvests human waste, there are industries of agriculture, water filtration, and energy production. Everyone works.

A stranger from earth appears onboard the spaceship suddenly by teleportation. The system wants to study the stranger to understand the current status of earth, and begins to construct a dwelling unit for him.

This story was published by archinect in 2005, and became the starting point of Citizens of No Place. It was also the source material for our first installation Phalanstery Module.
