The Slotted House is a 2000sf duplex in Bellflower, CA.

The plan of this project is a grid on a square. Four strips of rooms break down into two halves, each with one private and public strip. The interior elevations reveal slices of life through the doors and fixtures, as they become the drawing strips of daily routine. By slotting the slices back together into a square in three-dimensions, a fishbone diagram is formed to organize the programmatic and structural logic of the two halves. The shared middle wall is the primary infrastructural wall, embedding the main mechanical, electrical and plumbing needs.
